In short

How to move from a monthly reconciliation marathon to a daily list of exceptions.

Most teams reconcile once a month because it takes too long to do more often. Flip that around: reconcile every day and the monthly job disappears.

Connect the feeds

Start with direct bank feeds rather than statement uploads. Daily data means daily matches.

Let the easy matches clear themselves

Exact amount and reference matches make up most lines. Clear them automatically and keep a record of the rule that matched them.

Work the exceptions

What’s left is short: split payments, bank fees and timing differences. Review them daily while they’re fresh, and month-end becomes a sign-off rather than a project.
